Ensuring that drinking water is pure and safe is a necessity in every household. The water purifiers in our homes consist of various water filters that remove unwanted dirt, impurities and other harmful particles and chemicals.

There are multiple filters used in a water purifier and each of these filters play a different role in the purification of water. Sediment filter, being one of the pre-filters, plays an important role in the initial stages of the filtration process.

What Impurities Sediment Filters Remove?

As the name suggests, a sediment filter acts as a barrier against different types of sediments or suspended solids. It sieves or holds back physical impurities like dust, dirt, sand, silt, clay, and other solid particles. Mostly the particles that are visible to the naked eye are treated by sediment filters during the process of water purification.

Why Sediment Filters are important?

A Sediment filter usually acts as the first stage of water purification. Being the first line of defence, its core function is to remove the physical impurities or particulate matter from water. It prohibits all the solid particulate from entering your filtered water and enhances the filtration efficiency of RO membrane and UV filters.

It is not responsible for changing the taste or smell of water. It is one of the preventive filtration methods and does not remove chemicals, heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, or dissolved solids in water. These impurities are removed by further stages of RO and UV purification.

Pureit uses gradient sediment filters which are efficient to entrap impurities as small as 5 microns. The sediment layers are tightly wound in layers, ranging from 5-10-15 microns to ensure most efficient filtration.

When is it advisable to clean/replace a Sediment Filter?

Sediment filters need to be cleaned and maintained at regular intervals. You can clean these filters on your own in every 4-6 months or you can call brand experts for the first time and take their help for maintenance, replacement, etc. Always refer to the product manual before changing the sediment filters on your own.

Replacement of sediment filters also depends on the source of the water and the type, quality, etc. If your water supply seems to be muddy or unclear, it is advisable to change the sediment filters in every 6-8 months.

What does a sediment filter do?

Sediment filters in water purifiers remove suspended particles such as dust, dirt, clay, sand, and other debris from the water.

Does sediment filter treat TDS in water?

Sediment filters in water purifiers can’t remove TDS (total dissolved solids) because it consists of various impurities such as harmful chemicals, heavy metals, industrial contaminants, and organic matter.

How often should you change a sediment filter?

The life span of sediment filters primarily depends on the quality of water. However, sediment filters need to be replaced every six months to one year.

What is a sediment filter in RO?

RO water purifiers are multi-stage water purifiers. Sediment filters in RO purifiers are the first stage of the water purification process. The sediment filters remove sediments, particles and then send the water for further purification.

What is the price of a sediment filter in India?

The price of sediment water filters in India ranges from Rs. 300 to Rs. 3000 INR. In Pureit water purifiers, sediment filters have a similar price range depending on the model of water purifiers.
